A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Wilkerson Funeral Home, in Greenville, N.C. at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, and at Hastings Funeral Home, in Morgantown, at 2 p.m. on October 7. Born on February 25, 1945, in Dallas, Ore., she was the daughter of the late Dorothy Wiebe Comuntzis and Constantine “Gus” Comuntzis.
Kay spent her formative years in Morgantown. She was a proud West Virginia University Mountaineer alumna, where she studied journalism. She moved to Greenville, N.C., in 1988, and later received a degree in middle school education from East Carolina University. Her last 23 years were spent teaching young people in Fla. and N.C. Mrs. G, as she was known by her students, was loved by all and she loved all of her kids at her teaching stops during her career at Eppes, Farmville, Welcome, Space Coast, Swansboro, and Pactolus.
Kay possessed a keen wit and had a ready laugh for all things humorous. Her students adored her and her peers admired her. She loved watching sports on TV, cooking, and spending time at the beach.
Kay is survived by her son, Sean L. Getsinger, of Greenville, N.C.; daughter, Constance G. Getsinger, of Winterville, N.C.; grandson, Riley P. Bowen, of Winterville, N.C. and granddog Lily, her favorite German Shepherd.
