CLARKSBURG — The 50-year-old male who shot himself after barricading himself in the basement of a North View home Monday night is dead, Clarksburg Police Chief Robbie Hilliard said.
SWAT teams from the Clarksburg Police Department and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene of a home near the corner of North 16th Street and Hamill Avenue just before 6 p.m. Monday. Officers negotiated with the man for at least an hour before he turned a gun on himself, Hilliard said.
Earlier reports claimed that a hostage was able to make it out of the home. However, Hilliard said there never was a hostage involved in the incident.
Hilliard said the disturbance began over a personal matter.
The suspect was transported to United Hospital Center, where he later died from injuries he sustained from the gunshot wound.
The man’s identity was not released Tuesday.
