MORGANTOWN — Gabe Turak scored three goals for the Trinity soccer team as it dominated Union Local (Ohio), 5-2, on Monday afternoon.
Caleb Shepherd and Fletcher Hartsock each scored the other two goals. Mason Steptoe and Hartsock combined for three saves at goalie.
Trinity had 17 corner kicks throughout and could not convert any of them, while Union Local had one and converted, but the Warriors took advantage straight up for the win.
Trinity (2-4) will play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wheeling Central.
Cross-country
ONA — The Preston High girls’ cross-country team finished fourth Saturday at the St. Mary’s Medical Center XC Festival — the largest meet in West Virginia, held at Cabell Midland.
Freshmen Allie Martin (third, 19:20) and Chloe Stark (eighth, 20:28) were in the top 10 for the Knights. Senior Alexa Gorondy was also a medalist in 12th place (20:40). Madison Trippett, of Parkersburg, was the individual winner (18:22).
The boys finished sixth as a team. They were led by juniors Trey Smith-Tatham (18th, 17:49) and Hayden Thomas (32nd, 18:24). Ronnie Saunders, of Wheeling Park, was the individual winner (16:26).

Bella Goff placed 15th in the girls’ small school division at the Interstate Classic in Clear Spring, Md., on Saturday, with a time of 23:49.
