MORGANTOWN — Two sections of the Deckers Creek Trail will be temporarily closed while the Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners (BOPARC) makes repairs.
Melissa Wiles, BOPARC executive director, said part of the trail between Valley Crossing and Stanley’s Spot Dog Park has been closed since Monday while BOPARC crews replace a section of collapsed fence and repair a culvert. The work on that section is expected to be completed today, she said.
Repair work on another section, between Valley Crossing and the bridge by the parking garage, is expected from Sept. 4-6.
Wiles said both sections had fencing that came down because of erosion caused by water runoff. She said the maintenance is to be expected given the age of the trail system and the hilly terrain.
The trail sections will be impassable for safety reasons, Wile said. Replacing the culvert requires heavy equipment and the section being repaired in September has poor visibility due the natural curves of the trail.
She said the public’s patience is appreciated and asked people to use different parts of the trail while the repairs are being done.
“We’ll try to get everything back to normal as soon as possible.”
