Prep roundup: Aug. 26 – UHS sweeps Knight Night Relays

KINGWOOD — The University High boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams swept the Knight Night Relays on Saturday , at Preston High.
The Hawks’ girls’ relay A team of Emma Troischt (9:14.25), Caroline Kirby (9.03.70), Abby Murray (9.32.60) and Zoe Shetty (9:02.30) combined for a time of 36:52.78 to win the 4×1 1/2-mile race.
The boys’ relay A team of Aidan Palmer (7:59.59), Nathaniel Edwards (7:59.60), Ryan Coen (8:20.30) and Larry Edwards (7:34.30) combined for a time of 31:53.72).
Larry Edward’s time was good enough for No. 1 in the meet.
For Morgantown, the girls finished third overall with a time of 38:01.56): Lea Thatcher (8:47.62), Lauren Hancox (10:03.10), Megan Weaver (9:47.90) and Athena Young (9:22.90).
The MHS boys finished fourth with a combined time of 33:13.18: Jackson Core (7:47.50), Quinn Jacquez (8:47.80), Robert Gullion (8:11.20) and Michael Hoefler (8:26.60).
The host Knights finished fourth on the girls’ side with a combined time of 38:13.81: Allie Martin (8:55.87), Chloe Stark (09:12.90), Alexa Gorondy, (09:50.40) and Maryann Wolfe (10:14.60).
The PHS boys finished eighth with a combined time of 33:52.40): Hayden Thomas (8:22.03), Trey Smith-Tatham (8:06.60), Lowell Cerbone (8:39.40) and Wyatt Wolfe (8:43.30).

BUNKER HILL — Rachel Barlow had two unassisted corner kick goals for the Preston girls’ soccer team Saturday in a win at Musselman.
Hailee Conn had one goal, assisted by Megan Noss. Kendra Bolinger netted Preston’s final goal on a penalty kick. Kinley Manko has 10 saves on the day for the Knights in goal.

PHS (2-1) will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Buckhannon-Upshur.

BUNKER HILL — Senior captain Monty Rebelo scored his third goal in three games for the Knights while freshman Colin Reeves scored the first goal of his career in the loss Saturday to the Applemen.
PHS (0-3) will host Morgantown at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
