NILES, Ohio — Yeffersson Yannuzzi allowed just three hits over five innings, leading the Mahoning Valley Scrappers over the West Virginia Black Bears in a 3-2 win on Thursday.
Yannuzzi struck out seven and walked one while allowing one run.
With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh, West Virginia took the lead when Melvin Jimenez hit an RBI double, bringing home Nick Valaika.
Mahoning Valley answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs to take the lead for good. Tyler Freeman and Henry Pujols both drove in runs en route to the one-run lead.
Luis Valdez (2-4) got the win in relief while Will Gardner (0-2) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game. Luis Santos retired the side in order for his third save of the season.
Mahoning Valley improved to 6-3 against West Virginia this season.
