Jean Fisher Hughes McDaniel, age 76, passed away on August 19, 2018, in Alexandria, Va. She was born September 8, 1941, in Morgantown, the daughter of William and Mildred (Fairfield) Fisher.
She was a graduate of West Virginia University, a proud military wife, an avid West Point fan, and an Arlington Lady, where she attended funerals at Arlington National Cemetery on behalf of the Army chief of staff, extending condolences to families. Jean considered being chosen to serve as the most meaningful thing she had ever done. And her proudest moment was laying the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier on Veterans Day.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 18 years, Col. Robert L. McDaniel.
She is survived by her son, William McCaw Hughes, III (Julie); daughter Sarah Kemple (Sean); her four grandchildren; and her first husband, Lt. Col. William McCaw Hughes, Jr.
Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
