MORGANTOWN — During the first week of the return of WVU students, the Morgantown Police Department responded to numerous calls for service resulting in a variety of citations and arrests.
Between Aug. 9-20, the department received more than 2,700 calls for service, including several for alcohol and nuisance issues.
According to a release from the department, here is a preliminary breakdown.
— Total calls for service: 2,723
— Traffic crash reports: 28
— Total criminal citations: 179
— Underage consumption/purchase of alcohol: 56
— Open container: 51
— False ID: 1
— Littering: 14
— Possession controlled substances: 9
— Disorderly conduct: 11
— Public intoxication: 11
— Noise/nuisance party violation: 12
— Unlawful sale/furnish to minors: 8
— Trespass: 6
In addition to the 179 criminal citations, 57 people were arrested for a variety of criminal offenses, including DUI, obstruction of officer, shoplifting, possession of controlled substance and disorderly conduct.
All citations have not been processed and several warrants have yet to be served.
