Reverend Sherman William Riggleman, also known as “Bud”, age 78, of Morgantown, was received into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, August 16, 2018, at his sister’s home in Morgantown.
Sherman was born June 20, 1940, in Morgantown, a son of the late Ray Paul and Virginia Dare (Mayle) Riggleman.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Hicks Riggleman; his children, Sharon Anderson (Pastor Titus D. Anderson), Sherman Riggleman, Jr., David Riggleman (Sandy), Kimberly Gifford (Randolph), Gregory Scott Riggleman (Sheree), Ray Riggleman (Betsy), Tonya Farrell (Craig), Darlene Riggleman, Nicholas Riggleman (Jenna), Thelma Brockett, William Brockett and Roy Brockett (Rhonda); 24 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; a great-grandchild, Easton Cole, whose birth he was anticipating before his passing; five sisters, three brothers, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Riggleman and his daughter, Debbie Riggleman.
Sherman was a well known pastor for several decades. He cherished the opportunity to teach others about God. He did so with every chance he had, such as in his teachings on mine safety, where he would often incorporate the importance of faith and trust in the Lord for miners to perform their duties. He also enjoyed landscaping, meeting new people, and telling great stories to his grandchildren.
Friends may join the family to honor Sherman’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Morgantown, from 4 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 18 and from 1 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 19.
Visitation will continue at the Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle, in Mt. Morris, Pa., where Sherman will lay in repose, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Monday, August 20, with the funeral service to follow with Pastors Titus Ray Anderson and Titus Daniel Anderson, his grandson and son-in-law, respectively, officiating. He will be laid to rest next to Thelma in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
