MORGANTOWN — A North Carolina man was sentenced in federal court Thursday for using a gun during a robbery in Monongalia County.
Jared Tyrone Cooke, of Charlotte, was sentenced to 7 years in prison, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice Northern District of West Virginia
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of use of a firearm during a crime of violence in April, the release stated. He admitted to using a 12-gague shotgun during a robbery in Morgantown in January.
The Dominion Post previously reported Cooke was arrested on suspicion of being involved in a January 9 home invasion on Forrest Avenue.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Zelda E. Wesley. The Mon Metro Drug Task Force, the Morgantown Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives invested.
Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided.
