FAIRMONT — Open auditions will be held for the Fairmont State University Town and Gown production of “The Addams Family,” a musical comedy based on the cartoons of Charles Addams.
The audition for “The Addams Family” is set for Aug. 25. The singing audition will be held from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Dance auditions will follow at 3:30 p.m.
Artist-in-residence and guest director Mara Newbery Greer will provide a dance workshop to help area performers prepare for “The Addams Family” auditions. The workshop is set for noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Wallman Hall Theatre. Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing and shoes for movement and dance. The workshop is open to anyone interested in auditioning- both Fairmont State students and the general public.
Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of music in the style of but not from “The Addams Family.” Everyone auditioning must attend the dance audition, regardless of age, or role desired. Wear movement appropriate clothing and shoes.
Callbacks will be held from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 27. Auditioners who are called back will be given material (songs and scenes) to prepare.
The role of Pugsley Addams is open to boys ages 9 to 19. All other roles are roles for adults and teens.

In “The Addams Family,” Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. And Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother.
Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s normal boyfriend and his parents.
The script was written by Marshal Brickman and Rick Elice. The music and lyrics are by Andrew Lippa.
The performance dates for at Fairmont State University are Octo. 26-Nov. 3.
