BATAVIA, N.Y. —- Daniel Amaral homered and had two hits, and Nicholas Economos struck out nine hitters over six innings as the West Virginia Black Bears defeated the Batavia Muckdogs, 2-0, on Wednesday.
Logan Stoelke struck Jerar Encarnacion out with a runner on first to end the game for his sixth save of the season.
Economos (3-2) allowed two hits while walking one to pick up the win.
West Virginia scored its runs when Amaral and Edison Lantigua hit solo home runs in the third and seventh innings.
Chris Vallimont (0-1) went 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run and one hit in the New York-Penn League game. He also struck out two and walked three.
The Muckdogs were held off the scoreboard for the fourth time this season, while the Black Bears’ staff recorded their third shutout of the year.
