Gorman “Jim” or “Jr.” Mayle, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 11, 2018.
He was born in Detroit Mch. on October 11, 1928, to the late Carris (Newman) and Arley Gorman Mayle.
Jim owned a trucking company and over the years hauled lumber, scrap metal, and coal. He and his father also owned a lumber mill.
He was a long-time member of Morgantown First Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School, sang in a gospel quartet that traveled locally, and served on the church board, as well as in many other roles. Jim lived his faith.
He loved a good joke, southern gospel music, and his family. He quietly did what needed to be done without complaint and often found ways of ministering to people he encountered. He and his wife traveled across the country several times and especially enjoyed Alaska.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Evelyn “Ruth” (Fogle) Mayle.
He leaves a family that loves him and will miss him; children, Dr. Paul and wife Ruth, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Carol Jones, of Morgantown, Drs. Mark and wife Amanda, of Morgantown; grandchildren, Jennifer Jones, Greg Jones, Janelle Vance, Lauren Mayle, AJ Mayle, and Bridger Mayle; great-grandchildren, Carter Jones, Jaxon and Charlee Mayle, and Harper and Morgan Vance; and a sister, Emogene Wright and her family, in Calif.
We are thankful to family and friends who helped keep him at home, especially his grandson, Greg Jones, for providing exceptional care. Kindness and care was also provided by Amedysis Hospice.
Friends may join the family to honor Jim’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care from 6 -8 p.m. on Friday, August 17, and from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, with the service to follow with Pastor Jeff Haught officiating. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Ruth at Oak Grove Cemetery, in Morgantown.
