STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Wadye Ynfante hit a bases-clearing single in the seventh inning, leading the State College Spikes to an 8-7 win over the West Virginia Black Bears on Thursday.
It was the Black Bears third straight loss and West Virginia has lost seven of its last eight games.
Kevin Hamann got Zack Kone to fly out with runners on second and third to end the game for his seventh save of the season.
The single by Ynfante, part of a four-run inning, tied the game 5-5 before Ynfante scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
The Spikes added to their lead in the eighth when Delvin Perez hit a two-run single.
West Virginia saw its comeback attempt come up short after Mike Gretler hit a two-run double in the ninth inning to cut the State College lead to 8-7.
Winston Nicacio (2-2) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Ryan Valdes (0-1) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game.
For the Black Bears, Jhoan Herrera homered and singled, scoring two runs.
