BRIDGEPORT — Caleb Taylor was double-trouble Thursday July 26, in the first round of the Area 2 American Legion baseball tournament.
The Morgantown catcher was a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles in Post 2’s 13-3 victory against Clarksburg.
Post 2 (29-7), the tournament’s No. 1 seed, had 13 hits — six for extra bases — and scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game with the mercy rule.
Post 2 will play the winner of the Fairmont-Bridgeport game, at 7 p.m. today, in the second round of the double-elimination tournament.
Taylor also drove in two runs and walked once.
Teammate Andrew Berry added three RBIs and Devon Neal, Cam Stoldt and Clay Maholic all drove in two runs.
Evan Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice.
It was more than enough offense for pitcher Colton Matthews, who went all six innings and allowed seven hits and three runs. None of the runs were earned. He walked two and struck out four.
