MORGANTOWN — The Coal Bucket Saloon threw open its doors Thursday and invited bikers and others in to enjoy the first day of Wild and Wonderful MountainFest.
Eddie Montgomery helped with the celebration.
The four-day festival is presented by MountainFest LLC, in cooperation with the Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau. Proceeds from each MountainFest go to nonprofit Mylan Park and the many public and private projects under way there.
In its 14 years, MountainFest has donated about $970,000 to nonprofit organizations.
Each year, about 50,000 visitors are expected at the event, held at Mylan Park. That makes for about 525,000 attendees over the years.
Montgomery Gentry became the 76 musical guest. Adding to number will be Bret Michaels at 7:15 tonight and Alabama at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The vendor mall and food vendors are open today from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Activities at Triple S Harley-Davidson are planned from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today.
Sunday will feature the annual Blessing of the Bikes at 11 a.m. at the WVU Coliseum, with the parade of bikes from there through downtown Morgantown at 1 p.m.
