‘How I Learned to Drive’ debuts July 20 at M.T. Pockets

MORGANTOWN — M.T. Pockets will continue it’s 2018 season with Paula Vogel’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “How I Learned to Drive,” directed by Tawnya Drake. The production is set for 8 p.m. July 20-21, July 26-28 and 2 p.m. July 22. It is recommended for mature audiences.

“How I Learned to Drive,” which premiered in 1997, was a pioneering drama for its examination of pedophilia and sexual abuse of women. It is a reflection show set in the 1960s and ’70s that follows a young woman from 11 to 18 and her friendship and sexual affair with her uncle. Together they travel to the darkest, most unspoken places of their seven-year relationship.
The New York Times said, “Ms. Vogel has written a lovely, harrowing guide to the crippling persistence of one woman’s memories.” The Village Voice reported “… ‘How I Learned to Drive’ is a tremendous achievement, genuine and genuinely disturbing.”
The M.T. Pockets production stars Nora Perone as L’il Bit and Jim Stacy as Uncle Peck. The ensemble includes Joy Carr Furbee, Adam Messenger and Christine Adduchio.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors/military members and $10 for students. Tickets are available online at MTPocketsThe atre.com. Reservations can be made by calling 304-284-0049 and leaving a message. Tickets can be purchased at the door when seating is available.
