John Clayton Vance Sr., 87, of Star City, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Mapleshire Nursing Home.
John was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Union-town, Pa., a son of the late John and Bessie White Vance.
John was always involved in the automobile industry and was the owner of Vance’s Automobile Sales and Service. John served with U.S. Army. He enjoyed working at his business and following NASCAR.
John is survived by one son, John Vance Jr., of Star City; three grandchildren, Kristin Richards and her children, Griffin and Lila, John Cameron Vance and wife, Kelly and son, Declan and Katherine Oliver and husband, John; and one sister Wanda Yost, of Chardon, Ohio. He is also survived by Barbara Mayle and husband, Gordon, of Brook-haven, and Carletta Brooks, of Michigan.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Howard Vance; and Karl Brooks.

Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover, from 5-8 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Pas-tor Fred Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery with graveside military honors provided by the WVANG and Westover VFW Post 9916.
