MORGANTOWN — Morgantown’s Whiskey Victor has released its debut album, “The End of Daylight.”
Whiskey Victor is the neo-folk duo of sisters Anna-Kate and Shannon Bean, known for harmonies and unique instrumentation. Anna-Kate graduated from the WVU School of Music in 2017, where she studied vocal performance. Shannon is a rising junior at WVU and studies vocal and viola performance. Both are graduates of Morgantown High School.
Anna-Kate and Shannon draw from a lifetime of genre-bending musical influences. They grew up steeped in the Appalachian traditionals, then charted their own path, spending years training in classical music performance.
“The End of Daylight” is about facing head on the reality of decline and decay, but still managing to find grace and even joy within the grip of collapse. The album features songs about coming to terms with profound loss by finding meaning and value in a refreshing mountain breeze, the energy of a vibrant city, or the mystery of a distant radio transmission.
The primary tracks for the album were recorded by Mark Poole at Zone 8 Studios in Granville.
Album art is by Morgantown artist and WVU art student Madison Matlick.
The album leads off with “The Answer,” a track featured last year on West Virginia Public Radio’s “30 days of #WVmusic” series. It also contains the singles “Chicago” and “New Song,” as well as eight other original songs and two instrumental interludes.
Whiskey Victor has performed across the region since 2016.
On June 21, they sang the national anthem at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park with their voice professor and mentor Rob Chafin as WVU’s representatives at the Pirates’ “West Virginia University Day.”
They will perform Friday at Jerry Run Summer Theater in Hacker Valley, and Aug. 11 at Chestnut Ridge Park near Morgantown.
“The End of Daylight” is now available in digital format on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music and all other major music services. CDs are available from CD Baby.
