MORGANTOWN — Morgantown’s 2018 paving program will kick off Monday.
Several roadways will be affected, including Richwood Avenue, University Avenue and Campus Drive.
According to information provided Thursday by the city, contractor Parrotta Paving will pour concrete along Richwood Avenue and demolish sidewalk and curbs on University Avenue and Campus Drive to make room for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps.
This work should wrap up on Tuesday.
Following the holiday, on Thursday, Parotta will begin milling work on Richwood Avenue, Campus Drive, University Avenue, Third Street and Forest Avenue.
According to the city, this work should be complete by Saturday. Parking on Richwood and Forest avenues will be unavailable during these days.
The city approved contracts totaling $1,436,000 for the work late last month. Parotta Paving was awarded the paving contract for $873,555.38, and Greer Industries was awarded the materials contract, totaling $560,557.10.
The city is paving about six miles of streets this time around using revenue generated by the $3 weekly user fee, which is expected to generate $4.5 million in the fiscal year ending June 30.
This is the first year of the city’s five-year paving plan built upon the work of Washington, D.C.-based Dynatest, which tested and graded the city’s streets in May 2017 in order to provide a pavement condition index.
