MORGANTOWN — Kathy Abate was elected chair of the Monongalia County Democratic Executive Committee this week.
A longtime member of the committee, Abate was joined in the leadership group by Shane Assadzandi and Danielle Thomas, first and second vice chairs; Dana Metheny, secretary, Nancy Jamison, treasurer, and Bader Giggenbach, parliamentarian, according to a press release from the committee.
The county executive committee is chosen by voters in the primary election.
The group honored outgoing leaders: Kelly Jo Palmer, Carye Blaney, Donna Hidock and Sandy Barton. Palmer, who chaired the group for the past 25 years, remains on the committee as the representative of the Morgantown Democratic Women’s Club.
Other members sworn in Monday were Alissa Ponzurick, Stefan Page, Austin Porter, Susan Case, Bill Case, Macabe Keliher, Neil Heard, Amy Gentzler, Emilie Marlier, Caressa Stoller, Nathan Bartolo, Tom Bloom, Julia Hamilton, Jamie Blake, Bernie Raber, Cindy Jones (Clinton District Democratic Women) and Justin Click (North Central West Virginia Young Democrats).
Abate said the committee will be seeking volunteers to assist in the upcoming election and other activities. Those interested can sign up on the organization’s website, mondems.org.
