AUBURN, N.Y. (AP) — Kyle Marinconz scored on a forceout in the third inning, leading the Auburn Doubledays to a 9-3 win over the West Virginia Black Bears on June 26. With the victory, the Doubledays swept the three-game series.
The forceout started the scoring in a six-run inning and gave the Doubledays a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Auburn scored on three more plays, including two RBIs each from Ricardo Mendez and Jose Sanchez.
In the fifth, Nic Perkins hit a two-run home run for Auburn, while Marinconz scored on a forceout in the sixth.
Eric Wood hit a two-run home run for the Black Bears.
Auburn right-hander Malvin Pena (2-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on just two hits over five innings. Opposing starter Osvaldo Bido (1-2) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game, allowing six runs and five hits over 2 2/3 innings.
