MORGANTOWN — Evan Smith pitched a five-inning no-hitter June 23 to help Morgantown Post 2 sweep a doubleheader from Braxton County, 10-0 and 15-1.
Smith allowed two walks and struck out five in the 10-0 victory. He threw 37 of his 59 pitches for strikes.
Clay Maholic and Cameron Watts drove in two runs apiece, Maholic and Quintin Smith each had two of Post 2’s eight hits, and Devon Neal scored three runs.
In the second game, Charlie Petty pitched a solid five innings for Post 2 (16-3), allowing four hits, one walk and an unearned run.
Meanwhile, Post 2 pounded three Braxton County pitchers for 11 hits and drew nine walks.
Quintin Smith swung a big bat again, going 2-for-2 with a triple, a double and four RBIs.
Caleb Taylor was 3-for-3, scored three runs and drove in two. Gavin Cottle, Neal, Ethan Smith and Maholic drove in two runs apiece.
Eight of Post 2’s hits were doubles, including two each by Taylor and Ethan Smith.
Morgantown hosts Weirton for a doubleheader today, starting at 1 p.m.
