In response to the article “City moving forward with Haymaker” (DP_Monday) I was appalled with the comments of several of our council representatives.
Mark Brazaitis implying that it is in our citizens best interest to spend even $10 million to acquire this property. Really!
Barry Wendell, “I think people in the city are willing to pay more (taxes) to get the city that they want.”
Why not ask the citizens through a referendum what they want instead of guessing. Wendell said he believed the city could move ahead even if the voters aren’t on board. Who does this councilman represent if not the voting citizens of our city?
Other things that need to be considered is the fact that this is being rushed by council. The first public notification that this purchase was being considered was given May 25 and now we are looking to finalize a deal with only 25 days for the public to give feedback.
There is no funding plan in place, either. This is total fiscal irresponsibility. The appearance of a financial benefit to deputy mayor Brazaitis, makes it seem he is using his office for personal gain.
This is totally irresponsible and possibly an impropriety by the City Council. I can present many more concerns with this issue for consideration if necessary.
