KINGWOOD — Preston County commissioners spoke briefly about the most recent North Central Caucus on Roads meeting at Monday’s meeting.
The caucus, formed by the six counties in the State Division of Highway’s District 4: Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Harrison, Taylor and Doddridge, is trying to get the region’s roads improved.
At its June 12 meeting, the caucus was told by District 4 Engineer Don Williams he would need more than double the current funding provided in order to maintain the roads.
“We’re not going to give in. We’re going to keep on going, because I think we’ve got some traction,” Commissioner Dave Price said.
“I think it’s important that the dialogue is continuing,” County Administrator Kathy Mace said.
The caucus will meet again in August, and Commission President Craig Jennings said the other counties are gathering their prioritized lists of roads that need work for that meeting.
Commissioners also commented on Saturday’s Preston County bicentennial celebration. “Hats off, thank you and wow, didn’t that turn out great?” Jennings said, directing his remarks toward the organizing committee.
Also Monday, the commissioners:
- Approved the appointment of Art Mouser and Carrie See to four-year terms on the Farmland Protection Board, replacing Ed Utterback and Ted Jenkins, whose terms ended.
- Reappointed Wayne Williams to the Preston County Board of Health for another four years.
- Noted that a vacancy exists on the Public Defender Corporation Board. The spot must be filled by a retired law enforcement officer. Anyone interested should call the commission office at 304-329-1805.
- Heard a request from Shirley Hartley of the Rowlesburg Revitalization Committee for funding.
