ELKINS — Caleb Taylor had a huge day June 14, driving in eight runs in one game and pitching 4 2/3 scoreless innings in a second as Morgantown Post 2 won twice in the Hillbilly Hardball Classic.
Taylor had four of Post 2’s 16 hits, two of them home runs, and scored three times in an 18-5 win over Mifflin County, Pa.
Andrew Berry went 2 for 3 with two walks, scored four runs and drove in two, and Clay Maholic collected three hits in four at-bats with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Chandler Watts was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Post 2 surged to an 11-1 lead after three innings. Mifflin scored twice in both the fourth and fifth, but Morgantown put the game well out of reach with a seven-run sixth.
Colton Matthews got the win, pitching 4 2/3 innings while allowing three earned runs.
Morgantown also defeated Florida Gulf Coast Elite, 4-1, with Taylor allowing three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Gavin Cottle picked up the win in relief, however, as Post 2 broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the seventh inning.
Cottle also homered and drove in a pair of runs, and Cam Stoldt hit two doubles and drove in two runs.
Matthews added three of Post 2’s 11 hits.
