Anne Leslie Ridings, 72, of Morgantown, went to be with the Lord on Friday June 8, 2018, following a twenty-two year battle with cancer, at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
Anne was born in Steubenville, Ohio on April 23, 1946, a daughter of the late Aubrey Linwood Davis and Elisabeth Cattrell Davis of Weirton. She graduated from Weirton High School in 1964 and moved to Morgantown to attend West Virginia University, where she met and married James S. Ridings on May 20, 1966.
Anne is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jim Ridings, their two daughters, Catherine and Eric Staddon, of Morgantown and Susan Montgomery, of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Ashley Moore, Zachary Montgomery and Payton Staddon, of Morgantown; three brothers and one sister, Jeff and Jenny Davis, of Miamisburg, Ohio, Peter Cattrell, of Berkley, Calif., Paul and Nancy Davis, of Port Orange, Fla. and JoLynn and Dave Zatezalo, of Wheeling.
Jim and Anne were members of Calvary Baptist Church, in Uniontown, Pa., where Anne taught for many years at the private Christian school founded by the church. Anne taught English at the school and was a beloved teacher to all her students. Anne taught women’s bible study at Calvary Baptist Church and at Christian Missionary and Alliance Church, in Morgantown; she also taught a Wednesday morning bible study in Morgantown for many years.
Anne worked in the West Virginia University basketball office for many years. She enjoyed supporting the coaches and players on the WVU Men’s Basketball team. Jim and Anne spent many happy years on the farm in Bruceton Mills. In addition to her love of teaching, Anne was an avid writer of short stories and poems, many of which were published. Anne owned and operated a grooming business for many years in Morgantown and Bruceton Mills; she had an extraordinary love for all animals great and small.
Anne’s family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Frances Hoskins, of Morgantown, for the long term care of Anne and support of the family. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m., on Sunday, June 10. Visitation will continue at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, in Morgantown, from 11 a.m.-noon, on Monday, June 11, with services to follow with Pastor Douglas Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
