NEWBURG — The town of Newburg is looking for a water distributor operator.
The town currently has one employee who is doing all of the work and is running into a lot of overtime.
“We need someone with a license or someone who is willing to be trained,” Mayor Edgar Fortney said at this week’s council meeting.
The current operator, Steve Moran, told council he wants to eventually retire and the town will need someone to take over the job. “Who ever you hire, you will have to offer benefits,” Moran said.
Councilman Jim Weaver agreed with Moran. “Steve is right,” he said. “But you have to have the money.”
Council members reported no update on the Independence water line extension. The extension will take the water line as far as the former Independence school and provide water service to about 28 new customers.
Town Clerk Janet Adams said the town’s spring cleanup went well. She said 43 households participated.
Council also discussed purchasing a new dump truck for garbage pick up. Fortney said he would find out what is available and the cost. The town will keep its old truck for back-up.
In other business, Fortney said a new air conditioner will be installed at town hall soon.
