MORGANTOWN — From observing the life cycle of a butterfly to identifying bird species, students at Trinity Christian will soon have a greater opportunity to understand and appreciate nature through Fields at our Fingertips, an outdoor interactive learning space being created partially through a Dominion Energy Environmental Education and Stewardship grant valued at $4,500.
“This gift will give us more opportunities to take the classroom beyond the walls, and give new purpose to an existing space that was being underutilized,” said Superintendent Michelle Stellato Belt.
The grant funds will enable the school to make upgrades and equip the designated nature center with landscaping, habitats and learning tools. Enhancements will begin this month and continue through the summer in preparation for the return of students and teachers in August.
“We are excited to support area students and teachers through this educational resource. It is encouraging to have learning opportunities like this that connect youth to hands-on learning experiences that promote environmental stewardship,” Mark Barnes, director of Gas Operations Dominion Energy West Virginia, said.
Trinity Christian School is an interdenominational institution, in Morgantown, committed to providing a life-changing education for students in grades Pre-K3 through 12.
Dominion Energy is awarding $1 million in grants through its philanthropic arm, the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, to nearly 130 organizations in 12 states working to improve natural spaces or encourage environmental stewardship. Since 2003, Dominion Energy has donated nearly $32 million to a wide variety of environmental projects across its footprint.
