Charges dropped for man accused of child abuse

MORGANTOWN — Charges against a man who was accused of beating and choking his girlfriend’s child have been dropped.

Perri Jo DeChristopher said the case against Andrew P. Lemasters, 23, was dismissed following a Tuesday morning hearing in Monongalia County Magistrate Court.

Law enforcement officers determined that his girlfriend fabricated the story that led to his arrest.

Lemasters was charged with child abuse resulting in injury after his girlfriend, identified in his criminal complaint only by her initials, told a Monongalia County Sheriff’s deputy that Lemasters, her live-in boyfriend, was physically abusive to her 2-year-old child.

DeChristopher said the woman will be charged with making false statements.

Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer said the woman has been interviewed and is aware of her impending arrest. The Dominion Post will continue to follow this story.
