Patricia Ruth Sparks, 61, of Morgantown, passed away May 27, 2018, at her home in Morgantown, with her husband by her side. She was born October 26, 1956, in Bluefield and was the daughter of the late Cecil Morgan and Evelyn Morgan.
Pat graduated from Welch High School, earned her B.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education from Concord University, her Masters Degree from WVU, and completed the Doctor program at WVU in Curriculum and Instruction. She taught public school in Beckley and at North Elementary in Morgantown. She was also an Academic Mentor for the WVU Football Program. Pat was a member of First Baptist Church in Morgantown.
She is survived by her husband, P. Bruce Sparks; son, Philip Bruce Sparks II and his wife Kaitlin Nicole Sparks; daughter, Kristie Morgan Sparks; grandchildren, Michael Alexander Sparks and Matthew Joseph Sparks and sister, Beverly Wyatt.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Gary Morgan.
The Family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center and Amedisys Hospice Care for their kindness, love and care during her battle with cancer.
Friends and family will be received at Pierpont Church of the Nazarene, in Morgantown, from 5-8 p.m., on Friday, June 1 and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., on Saturday, with the funeral services to follow with the Rev. Raynard Martin officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery, in Morgantown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Concord University Foundation for the Pat Sparks Scholarship Fund for future teachers from McDowell and Wyoming Counties, PO Box 1000, Athens, WV 24712 or to the WVU Cancer Institute, Office of Philanthropy, PO box 9300, Morgantown, WV 26506.
