MORGANTOWN — Whether your plans include fishing on Cheat Lake, picnicking at your house or spending time beside the pool, Memorial Day weekend is shaping up to be warm but cloud-covered.
Don’t lose hope, though, said Dave Dombek, senior meteorologist at AccuWeather. There are going to be periods of sun, clouds, showers and thunderstorms. Possibly all of them in one day.
“If you started on Friday and go through Monday, one of the themes there across the board is it’s going to be warm,” Dombek said.
The most sunshine will happen Friday May 25, when the temperatures are expected to hit around the mid-80s. May 26, 27 and 28 will continue to stay warm in the mid-80s, but more moisture and humidity sets in those days.
“Generally, I’d say clouds will win out over sun those three days, Saturday, Sunday and Monday,” Dombek said.
So while you shouldn’t cancel any Memorial Day picnics, be aware there may be some interruptions of showers and scattered thunderstorms. In other words, there’s “no start-to-finish dry day,” Dombek said.
“I think for the most part, there will be showers and thunderstorms that pop up,” Dombek said.
Temperatures are running a little higher than normal for this time of year. Normal highs are in the mid-70s, Dombek said. But we’re not going to hit any record highs either, he added. The record high for May 25 is 89, May 26 and 27 is 91, and May 28 is 90.
