MORGANTOWN — The West Virginia Division of Highways (DOH) will provide updates on a number of transportation projects May 23 and 24.
DOH District 4 Engineer Donny Williams is expected to provide an update on the status of River Road today when he sits down with the Monongalia County Commission May 23.
The DOH previously said it planned to have a plan in place for the slide-prone route by the end of the month.
A major slide on April 17 forced the evacuation of one home and sent large trees tearing through power lines and left them lying across the lower portion of River Road, which remains closed to traffic.
The question has become whether the DOH will continue to address the seemingly annual slides along the stretch of road or cut its losses and close it permanently to through traffic.
Commission President Tom Bloom said the commission will also address ongoing slide issues along Monongahela Boulevard during the meeting.
At 9:30 a.m. May 24, DOH personnel will be at Mountain Line’s Westover headquarters to discuss exactly what Monongalia County residents will see by way of transportation projects over the next year.
