Mary Cottrell

Mary Martha Cottrell, 78, of Wana, died Thursday, May 17, 2018, at her residence with her family by her side.
She was born November 5, 1939, in Wana, a daughter of the late Emmet “Bud” Wilson and Mary “Fern” King Wilson.
Mary Martha was a former secretary at Sterling Faucet, former deputy assessor for the Monongalia County Assessor’s office and was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was also a long time board member of the Clay-Battelle Health Service Association.
She was a member of the Blackville Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary.
Surviving is her husband, Hampton “Hap” Cottrell, to whom she had been married for 56 years; two sons and their spouses, David Cottrell and wife Marsha and Mark Cottrell and wife Heather, all of Wana; five grandchildren, Lucas, Logan, Matthew, Emily and Eli Cottrell; one brother, Wayne Wilson and his wife Sandy, of Wana; a brother-in-law, Clyde Cottrell and his wife Elva and their daughters, Janice and Lori and their familes, all of Fairmont; nephew and nieces, Ryan, Sally, Brayden and Baylee Wilson; Monica, Roger, Brock, Bristen and Colton Reed; and Aaron, Carla, Mackenzie, and Joshua Wilson.
The family would like to thank the following,  WV Caring; nurses, Carrie, Courtney, and Christina; Mon Health Oncology; Nurse Jean; the wonderful ladies at the Clay-Battelle Pharmacy who took extra time with the family; the  nursing staff at Mon Health Medical Center  5th Floor; special family from our church, Lorraine Shriver, Betty Owens, Brenda and George Michael, and Danny Copeland and our community for all of the love and support they have shown to our family.
Mary had a love for the Amish country;  Sugar Creek was among her favorite places to visit.  She loved Southern Gospel music.  She travelled all over the State of West Virginia and Ohio.  She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports.  She attended too many games to count for a lot of years.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, in  Blacksville,  from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m., on  Monday, May 21 and at the Blacksville Baptist Church from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m., on  Tuesday, with the funeral services to follow with the Rev. Rose Saunders and Dr. John Conaway officiating.  Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress.
