Morgantown man sentenced to 8 years for firearms charge

MORGANTOWN — Roger Dale LaMar, of Morgantown, was sentenced to 8 years and 18 days incarceration, to be served concurrently with his state sentence, for a firearms charge, United States Attorney Bill Powell announced.
Lamar, 49, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm in December 2017. Lamar, having previously been convicted of second-degree murder in Preston County Circuit Court in 2001, admitted to having three firearms in his possession. The crime occurred in February 2017 in Taylor County.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).
Assistant U.S. Attorney Traci M. Cook prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided.
