W. Va. — Candidates in two of three local state Senate primary races sailed through unopposed Tuesday and will face off in November.
In the nine-county 2nd District, Democrats chose Carla Jones over Dennis Longwell to face Republican incumbent Charles Clements in November.
Here is a look at the totals for the three races.
Numbers are unofficial pending canvassing.
13th District
This district covers the I-79 corridor in Monongalia and Marion counties. Incumbent Democrat Bob Beach will face Republican Mike Oliverio. Oliverio previously held the seat as a Democrat.
Beach, 5,062 votes in Mon County, 4,286 in Marion, for a total 9,348 votes; Oliverio, 2,550 votes in Mon County, 2,205 in Marion, for a total 4,755 votes.
2nd District
This district covers all of Calhoun, Ritchie, Doddridge, Tyler and Wetzel counties, and portions of Mon, Marion, Marshall and Gilmer.
As of deadline, Democrat Carla Jones held a commanding lead over Dennis Longwell. Jones had 2,739 votes (73.45 percent) to Longwell’s 990 votes (26.55 percent).
Republican: Charles Clements, 2,889 votes.
14th District
This district covers all of Preston, Barbour, Hardy, Taylor and Tucker counties, and portions of Mon, Mineral and Grant. Numbers were the most recent available at deadline.
Republican: incumbent Dave Sypolt, 6,825 votes. Democrat: Stephanie Zucker, 5,967 votes.
