Barbara Jean Cavallaro, 94, of Krepps St, Morgantown, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2018, with her family beside her at Sundale Nursing home.
A lifelong Morgantown resident she was born Jan 10, 1924, to Ira and Dorothy Price. Barbara “Jean” graduated from Morgantown High School in 1940; where she met and married her High School sweetheart and classmate Sammy Cavallaro following his tour of duty and remained married for 66 years until his passing in 2012.
Shortly after High School, Jean joined the War efforts and was employed by the DuPont Chemical plant where she participated in the Heavy Water portion of the Manhattan Project.
Jean was an avid golfer and played golf until she was in her 80’s. She was a member of the Pine’s CC women’s golf association and before that a member of the Morgantown Golf & CC. She was also an avid tennis player.
Jean enjoyed sewing and gardening and being a stay at home mom. She also enjoyed swimming and recreational power walking.
Jean is survived by her children; Richard Cavallaro and wife Nancy, of Raleigh, N.C., Scott Cavallaro and Christy Cavallaro, of Morgantown; three grand children and eight great grand children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Joe Price and Carolyn Bost.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, from 5-7 p.m., on Monday, May 7, and from 10-11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 8, with the funeral service to follow with Pastor Lee Bowman officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, in Westover.
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Sundale Nursing Home for their loving care during Jean’s two year stay.
