BLACKSVILLE — Caitlyn Kassay pitched a four-hit shutout and Rylee Burnette went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI as Clay-Battelle beat Gilmer County, 8-0, May 1, in Class A softball sectionals.
The Cee-Bees will host the survivor from among Gilmer, Notre Dame and Doddridge County at 5 p.m. Thursday for the sectional championship.
Kassay allowed one walk and struck out 10 in her five innings of work. She also went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs.
BASEBALL
Notre Dame 14, Trinity 3: The Warriors dropped their game on Senior Night for seven players: Tristen Nine, Seth McCroskey, Caleb Moats, Matt Kays, Jay Merrifield, Tucker Livengood and Cam Kellar.
Livengood went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Warriors. Nine also had three hits, one a double. Moats also hit a double.
Morgantown 12, Madonna 2: Andrew Kerzak and Ethan Stewart had big games for the Mohigans (13-8) on their Senior Night.
Kerzak was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a home run, and doubled as the winning pitcher, going 4 1/3 innings in the five-innig game, allowing two hits and striking out five.
Stewart was 2-for-3.
Caleb Taylor also swung a big bat, going 3-for-4 with three runs, five RBIs, a double and a home run for MHS, which plays at Brooke today.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
University 10, St. Albans 5: Mallory Napolillo netted two goals and contributed two assists in the win.
Jordyn Snider and Morgan Crocco each added two goals, Olivia Wills and Sela Chico each tallied a goal and an assist, and Ava Foreman and Emily McCabe scored once apiece.
Maddie Lopez led St. Albans with four goals.
Goalkeeper Riley Phares made four saves for UHS, which plays host to George Washington on Thursday.
