Preston County fills vacant positions

KINGWOOD — Preston Commissioners approved filling three vacancies, during a brief meeting Monday.

Sheriff Dan Loughrie received approval to hire Kourtni C. Smith as a utility officer. Utility officers act as court security and bailiffs, and man the security station at the entrance to the courthouse, among other duties. She will start today at $10 an hour.

Smith replaces Utility Officer Danny Ridenour, who is leaving that position to take a vacant county maintenance/custodian position. He will start his new job May 16 and be paid $12 per hour.

Cheryl Metz was hired by Assessor Connie Ervin to replace a vacancy in her office. Metz starts today at $11.50 an hour.

The commission also appointed Shawn Rankin to a two-year term on the Preston County Ambulance Association.

County 911/Emergency Management Director Duane Hamilton introduced Janet Wolfe as the county’s Telecommunicator of the Year. Her name will be added to a plaque at the 911 office and she received a jacket.

The commission will meet on Wednesday next week because of the primary election.
