The May 8 school levy election in Preston County is an easy decision. Vote yes!
Every building has a usable life that can be extended by appropriate maintenance at the appropriate time or shortened by the lack of it.
A prime example of lack of appropriate maintenance is our pothole-filled roads. I doubt the roads in and around Charleston are as chopped up and full of horrible holes as they are in this area, but we can see on a daily basis what poor maintenance and lack of funds are all about.
Having maintenance funds available when needed can add years to the life of schools. Those amounts are far less than new school buildings would be.
The new school buildings in the county are worthy of being kept in great shape, and the older schools should be maintained, not ignored, until it’s too late.
To get the most bang for the buck, vote for the school levy, and help the fire departments with their big responsibilities by approving the levy for these hard-working volunteers as well.
