Kingwood Women’s Civic Club fundraises for scholarships for Preston High students

KINGWOOD — Money raised by the Kingwood Women’s Civic Club calendar party will go for scholarships for Preston High School students.

The club holds an annual project to raise funds for the scholarship. This was its first calendar party.

Barbara Perry, secretary of the Civic Club, said last year they sold tickets for a quilt.

“We wanted to do something different,” she said about the calendar party. “This was our once-a-year project to raise funds for the scholarships.”

The club usually provides two or three scholarships each year.

“The committee is looking at some of the graduates who applied,” Alex Evans said.

She said no decision has been made about how many scholarships will be given this year.

She said some members of the club donated items for the silent auction. All of the members took part in putting together the 26 large baskets. She said others who donated were The Eagle’s, who donated the room, HI Class Cuts, Main Street Barbershop & Salon, Mountain Path Properties, Prosecuting Attorney Melvin Snyder, Estep & Shaffer, Judy Nedrow and Kingwood Floral.

David Wills from WFSP provided the music and members of the ChalleNGe Academy set up the tables and cleaned up following the event.
