KINGWOOD — The Food For Preston Harvest for Hunger food drive received a $1,500 donation from the local Mon Power Kingwood Service Center this week.
Tammy Laney, director of Food for Preston, said the service center hosts the event every year. She said this support helps FFP continue to serve families and children throughout Preston County.
Libby Durr, Mon Power manager of External Affairs, said along with the check, the center also donated 861 pounds of food.
Originally created out of need after the 1985 Cheat River flood, FFP helps secure food, funding and volunteers for 10 food pantries located throughout Preston County. It also provides food for the FFP Backpack Feeding Program.
“Collectively, our 10 Food for Preston food pantries serve 1,500 people each month, making 18,000 points-of-serve per year, putting food into the hands of people in need,” Laney said
She said the Backpack Program, in cooperation with Preston County Schools, provides weekend food to 340 students, delivering 12,000 bags in a school year.
Laney said FFP is thankful for the generous donations collected during the 2018 Harvest for Hunger Food Drive. She said FFP depends on local community support to fight hunger in Preston County. Donations are welcomed year-round.
