MORGANTOWN — Students at Eastwood Elementary learned more about the environment during their Earth Day assembly Friday.
Kristin Brand, a human resources generalist at KeyLogic Systems, said KeyLogic partnered with the Department of Energy at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to urge students to be more energy-conscious.
“We want youth to be aware of what they do and how it affects the generations to come,” she said.
The fourth-grade class at Eastwood was asked to draw a picture of what Earth Day means to them, and then KeyLogic employees voted on their favorite.
In the end, student Raegan Brant was the winner of the contest, and her design was put onto T-shirts for the fourth-grade class and teachers to wear.
Eastwood Elementary School was a fitting location for the Earth Day event, as it is Monongalia County’s first all-green school, Brand said.
Brand said she hopes that the students will remember the Earth Day message. KeyLogic has held the event for at least five years, she added.
“It’s just a great time to make everyone aware of what they can do for the environment,” she said.
“KeyLogic works with the Department of Energy at NETL, and … we strive to have a cleaner environment and cleaner energy.”
