MORGANTOWN — It’s never too early to start thinking about Mother’s Day and ways to honor your mother. The Morgantown Public Library and the Shelley A. Marshall Foundation pay tribute to mothers every year with their annual Mother’s Day Writing/Art contest which is for Monongalia County students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
Many elementary schools in Monongalia County have agreed to participate in this writing contest. If your school does not participate, but you would like your child or classroom to participate, please stop by the Morgantown Public Library and pick up the forms, which will be in the children’s area of the library.
Each participant is asked to write about why his or her mother is special and draw a picture to go along with the story. Contest forms must be returned to the library by 5 p.m. May 8. The forms will then be separated by grades and given to the judges. Each judge will choose a first-, second-, and third-place winner in each grade, plus a few honorable mentions. First-place winners in each grade will receive tea cups for their mothers. All first-, second- and third-place winners will be invited to a winners’ reception at the Morgantown Public Library at a later date.
If you have any questions about the writing contest, please call the library at 304-291-7425, Ext. 215.
