High Street stabbing likely self-defense

MORGANTOWN — A Wednesday night stabbing on High Street was likely self-defense, according to police.
Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston said Friday that Brady Piper, 40, of Morgantown, will most likely not be prosecuted.
Piper was arrested Thursday and charged with malicious wounding for stabbing, Charles Bishop, 50, of Morgantown, during a Wednesday evening fight.
According to a Morgantown police press release, officers responded to High Street, near Jasmine Grill, about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Bishop, was there and had been stabbed. He was transported to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He was listed in stable condition Thursday, according to the release.
On Friday, a hospital spokesperson said Bishop was not listed as a patient.
Piper had left the scene by the time police arrived, but he was found later on Willey Street, near University Avenue. At that time, he was arrested without incident, the release states.
The fight and ensuing incident occurred on High Street between Fayette and Walnut streets.
