WHEELING — Morgantown High ran its girls’ tennis record to 11-1 with 7-0 wins at Linsly and Wheeling Park, on April 10. The Mohigans dropped a mere 16 games in the sweep.
MHS’s lone loss this season was to Parkersburg. The Mohigans play at the Parkersburg Mixer on Saturday. First, the Mohigans host Parkersburg South today.

BASEBALL
University 22, Hedgesville 11: HEDGESVILLE — The Hawks swung early and were aggressive at the plate loate Monday, pounding out 22 hits against
the Eagles. Trevor Barnhart and Hunter Cottrell each hit a grand slam for UHS (4-6), while also tallying four hits. Kaden Metheny and Ross Mulhall each had three hits.
University 7, Linsly 6: WHEELING — Freshman Casey Smith earned the win in his first varsity start, and Kaden Metheny and Austin Forbes collected five of the Hawks’ (5-6) seven hits in the victory.
Smith pitched three-hit ball for four innings.
“He did very well,” coach Buck Riggleman said, explaining he took Smith out at that point because, “He was up to 66 pitches and it was a cold night.”
Perry Lillard cut short a Linsly rally in the seventh inning to earn a save for UHS, which plays at Wheeling Park today.
SOFTBALL
Wheeling Central 12, Morgantown 4: Ava Anderson and Brianna McKenzie each had two of the Mohigans’ eight hits in the loss. McKenzie hit a double and scored two runs.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
McDowell 6, University 4: Mathias Turner and Braydon Wilson scored two goals apiece for the Hawks, who absorbed their first loss of the season late Saturday. Quinn Napolillo contributed an assist and goalie A.J. Adams made 10 saves for UHS.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Morgantown 9, Capital 1; Morgantown 13, St. Albans 1: CHARLESTON — Playing in a near-constant snowfall Saturday, the Mohigans scored a flurry of goals in winning a doubleheader on the road.
Against Capital, Emily Verbosky led the way with four scores. Kylie Bennett netted two goals and added two assists, and Mia Wilson, Madilyn Shaffer and Maddie Ball each had a goal.
Shaffer and Hannah Calvert each contributed an assist.
Goalie Madison Adkins made seven saves.
Against St. Albans, Bennett tallied four goals and Tori Nass three. Verbosky and Ball each scored two goals, with Shaffer and Wilson netting one apiece.
Shaffer and Giana DeVincent each had two assists, and Molly Wilson and Ball had one each.
Adkins made seven saves in this game as well.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL
South 12, Mountaineer 3: Abby Harki went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for the Stallions (1-0). Breonna Marietta was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Aubrey Nicholson earned the win in a complete game with five strikeouts. Lauren Huebesch had a hit and three RBIs for the Mounties.
