William Robert “Bob” Honaker, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away April 4, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Edith Marie “Eee” Honaker; brothers, James, Charles and Eddie Honaker; parents, Virgil and Mary Delee Honaker.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Delee Honaker; son, Daniel Robert Honaker; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Honaker; granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Honaker; great-grandson, Braxton Robert Honaker; sisters, Helen Mann, Delores Bennett; and brothers, Gary Honaker, Wayne and Bobbie Honaker; several nieces and nephews and their spouses, many of whom were like second children to him and “Eee.”
A man of service and honor, Bob was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He honored, above all, his service to his family, especially his wife, Edith Marie, during her many years of illness, and made many sacrifices so that Kim and Danny would never want or need of anything.
He also served many drinks as a bartender at the Greenbrier Hotel. He loved his 46 years there, making lifelong friendships and instilling a strong work ethic in his children.
Bob honored his relationship with God during his daily walks from Dutch Hollow to Montague Drive, picking up stray golf balls from the Valley View and spending his time talking with “The Big Man Upstairs,” he would say.
He also served his community in many ways, as a member of the order of the Masons, Alleghany Lodge and in ways we will never know.
A lover of golf, with beautiful blue eyes and a quick wit, Bob was a friend to many and a stranger to none. His legacy lives on in those who sought his friendship, enjoyed his company and, most of all, in his children, granddaughter, and great-grandson, Braxton Robert.
He was proud of his life, of the way he and “Eee” built so much, coming from very humble beginnings, but gave credit to God, and to so many who helped him get a start in life, and he tried hard to pass this on to others. We believe he did. Rest in peace dear father, grandfather, husband, uncle, friend – the likes of you will never pass this way again.
The family will receive their family and friends at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, in Lewisburg, from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 8.
Funeral services for Bob will be at Alvon United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, with Pastor Bobby McClintic officiating. Interment will follow at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, in Lewisburg.
Please send flowers. Bob loved flowers.
The family would like to thank our good friends, Cynthia Hite and Bob Beverly, for all their support, Dr. James Hill and the many loving caregivers at the WV Veterans NF, especially Tammy Morris, and Rusty Arnold of Wallace & Wallace Funeral home.
