WVU choir closes Becket arts season Sunday

MORGANTOWN — Kym Scott will lead the WVU Chamber Singers in a concert of choral and solo selections at 3 p.m. April 8. The program is the final concert of the current season at St. Thomas à Becket Episcopal Church, 75 Old Cheat Road.
An Australian native, Scott received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and a Master of Music degree from the University of Queensland. Before moving to California in 2011, Scott taught choral music at the Brisbane Girls Grammar School and contemporary music and theory at the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE.
Kym regularly travels back to Australia, where she is highly sought after as an adjudicator and clinician.
Scott graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral music from the University of Southern California (USC). While at USC she conducted the USC Thornton Oriana Women’s Chorus as well as several performances with the USC Thornton Concert Choir and the USC Thornton Chamber Singers.
In 2013, she conducted members of the USC choirs in several performances with The Rolling Stones in Los Angeles and Anaheim during their “50 and counting” world tour. She finished her time at USC with a summer 2014 tour to China and South Korea, performing with the USC Thornton Chamber Singers and presenting lectures on Australian choral music at the World Choral Symposium in Seoul.
Since relocating to West Virginia in 2014, Scott has presented lectures at state and regional conferences including the West Virginia ACDA and MEA conferences, and the Southern Division ACDA conference. She also conducted the West Virginia All-State High School Honor Choir in January 2016.
Tickets will be available at the door, and students of all ages are admitted free. A reception follows the service.
