KINGWOOD — A traffic stop April 4 by Preston deputies netted two people with outstanding warrants who now face other charges as well.
Craig Oakes Langworthy, 28, of Terra Alta, was wanted in Garrett County, Md. He was charged by Preston with possession of a controlled substance. Mercedes Lynn Gardner, 25, of Terra Alta, had a warrant in Preston County for third-offense driving on license suspended for DUI related to a police chase in February. Additional charges of altering a vehicle’s serial number were added.
According to a criminal complaint by Lt. T.E. Mitter: A black Cobalt was blocking Eliason Road. Langworthy was driving. There was black tape over the car ID plate, and the registration card and temporary plate were registered to a different car. Gardner said she had just gotten out of jail in Mon County.
A K-9 unit alerted for drugs. There was a safe on the floorboards. Inside was suspected marijuana, small bags and a small bag with a residue that field tested positive for meth.
Both were in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail April 5.
