REEDSVILLE — The Town of Reedsville will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. April 17, at the Reedsville Volunteer Fire Department, to get input about a possible sewer rate increase.
Mayor Jason Titus said the town appealed the proposed rate change and asked to have a meeting.
“Masontown sent an answer and our attorney responded,” he said.
Reedsville doesn’t have a sewage treatment plant. It pays Masontown a bulk rate charge for sewage treatment. But Masontown said it is not being paid for treating the storm water that also runs through the plant.
Masontown wants to be paid based on the actual gallons that come through the Reedsville line to the sewer plant. Reedsville customers could be facing a rate increase of more than 300 percent if the hike goes through.
“The sewer problem should be our number one concern,” Councilwoman Renee Stone said.
Titus said in an effort to lower the storm water flow town workers have been smoke testing the sewers to find damaged lines.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, Titus said new town Officer Paul Rowan Jr. is on duty while waiting to attend the West Virginia State Police Academy. He said the 2013 Dodge Ram donated by the Preston County Sheriff’s Department now has new tires and has been aligned.
He said the work was done Bubba’s Tires and cost $572. Council members discussed possible decals for the vehicle, but made no decisions.
Volunteer services by the Mountaineer Challenge Academy was also discussed. Titus said he would find out how much time cadets could spend helping the town. Council members asked Titus if the cadets could help clean sidewalks and rake leaves in the park.
A special meeting to set the levy will be at 5:30 p.m. April 17 at town hall.
